Farewell Sunday: Oct 24

After 11 years of service, our Pastor for Teaching and Worship, Rev. Carolyn Francis, is concluding her ministry at Collins Street. Early in 2022, Carolyn will  take up her appointment as Lecturer in Baptist Identity and History at Whitley College in the University of Divinity.

Expressing gratitude to God for the gift of Carolyn’s ministry, the church will gather on Sunday October 24 to say farewell. We will do this in two ways: in a livestream service of thanksgiving at 10.30am and in a Zoom gathering at 1.00pm.

If you require further details, you can email the church office. Contact details are here.

CSBC during lockdown

We are committed to sharing worship together each Sunday.

When it’s possible to gather in our sanctuary on Collins St then we’ll be there! When this is not possible, we will broadcast a short service including prayers, scripture readings, a sermon and some music.

Each Sunday you can join in by clicking on the green CSBC ONLINE button to the right of your computer screen (or by scrolling to the bottom of the page if you’re using a phone or handheld device).

The service will stream at 10.30am each week but will then be available to watch at any time. We hope you’ll join in!

Spring in Melbourne

Despite our current challenges, the coming of Spring to Melbourne is the most wonderful sign of God’s continuing presence with us. Hear our pastor Simon reflect on this life-affirming moment for all of us.

SUNDAY JANUARY 31

Friends,

Today we offer our final pre-recorded online service.

Next Sunday, February 7, we invite you to join us in the church sanctuary, at 174 Collins St, at 10.30am. We hope and anticipate that we will meet together at this time each Sunday for an ‘in-person’ experience of worship, community and teaching. We will offer live-streamed or recorded parts of the service via this website for those unable to attend.

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has joined us during this strange season of virtual church. We are grateful for the resilience of community and faith, the graciousness of you all, and the possibility of something new beginning next Sunday.

In today’s video Carolyn reflects on Psalm 30, as the ancient community brings their stories of faith and struggle right into the temple.

Thank you for your company during the past year. We look forward to seeing many of you next Sunday.

SUNDAY JANUARY 24

Welcome.

In our video service of worship today, the first for 2021, we do two things.

First, on this Aboriginal Sunday we acknowledge the story, dignity and struggle of our nation’s first peoples. We pray for justice and reconciliation in our relationships and for our shared future.

Second, we reflect on the lectionary psalm for this third Sunday of Epiphany, Psalm 62 and explore what it means to rest in God.

Peace to you.

SUNDAY JANUARY 17

Today, once again, we offer some written prayers and reflections for your worship at home.

You can find our final summer liturgy here: CSBC Summer Liturgy January 17

Next Sunday we will return to CSBC Online with a video service.

Our ‘in person’ worship services at Collins St Baptist Church will resume on Sunday February 7 and we can’t wait to see you then!
